25 year old Steve Lewis Jr from Ransomville, New York will be making some more starts in the ARCA Menards Series in 2024. A prominent competitor in dirt modifieds across Upstate New York, Steve and his father run the only ARCA Menards Series team currently based in the state of New York. After running both plate races in 2023, they have opted to return for 2024. Using their only car (an ex RSS car), the #62 will be making the trip to Daytona again after a decent 13th place finish in last years race. They will also be making the trip to Talladega in April again if the car is kept clean. Lewis is also floating potentially running Michigan as long as everything goes good at Daytona and Talladega. Steve’s father Steve Lewis Sr will be serving as the crew chief once again. In terms of sponsorship, Steve will be carrying mostly the same ones from last year such as Telco Construction, Jeffery Machine, No Hugs Raceway, Gowdy Consulting, and Advanced Design Group.

After doing the Daytona test last year, Steve opted to not run it this year and gave the following response, “we didn’t go to the test because of being busy with work and everything around here and I had a fairly fast car at Talladega last year so I feel confident we’re gonna bring a good piece to Daytona based off of when we went out at Talladega last year and just a lot of expense to go back and forth from New York to Florida for the test.”

In addition to ARCA, Steve has been competing in various modified dirt series’ ever since 2015. These series’ include the Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series, The BRP Modified Tour, the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series, and on pavement, the Mighty TQ Midgets of Western New York. He has also competed in various Super DIRT Week events at Oswego Speedway and the New York State Fairgrounds. While the majority of races he’s attempted are at his hometrack of Ransomville Speedway. He’s competed at various other race tracks (majority dirt) such as Ohsweken Speedway in Canada, Merrittville Speedway, Mohawk International Raceway, Can-Am Motorsports Park, Weedsport Speedway, Brewerton Speeway, Fulton Speedway, Thunder Mountain Speedway, Brockville Ontario Speedway, Glen Ridge Motorsports Park, Albany-Saratoga Speedway, Lancaster National Speedway and Lake Erie Speedway. The majority of these being in Upstate New York. He normally runs the #11 on dirt and wanted the number for ARCA but the number was already taken by Andy Hillenburg’s Fast Track Racing.

I had also asked Steve about how he ended up with the #62 in ARCA. “I bought the car in early December of 2022, I only had a month to get it ready to go to the test, it wasn’t completely race ready. I had to put the motor in. So they gave me a list of numbers to choose from, and 62 was available and the one guy that was helping me for the test ran the 62 for his whole career when he raced against my dad. So since he was coming down and helping me, I figured well we’ll run the 62.”

With Steve being one of the many family run blue collar teams in ARCA, he is hoping to improve off of how he ran in 2023 and get his name out there more. Despite running over debris from Scott Melton’s car at Daytona which damaged the nose, he was still able to keep in the draft and run towards the front by the end of the race. However, at Talladega the car was having electrical issues and didn’t start the race. He ended up starting the race late but was able to keep in the draft for the rest of the race. He finished in 22nd, 17 laps down and the last car running. Steve is hoping to potentially get a top 10 at Daytona next month or even better than that. The 2024 ARCA Menards Series kicks off at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida on February 17th at 1:30 PM EST.
