Out of Crawford, Mississippi, Daylan Hairston is looking to make his ARCA Menards Series debut driving for Fast Track Racing after serving as a crew member for the team for the past 3 years. Hairston is looking as of now to debut at the Nashville Fairgrounds ARCA East race on Saturday May 11th. Hairston was originally looking at debuting at this past weekends east race at Five Flags but could not put together enough sponsorship in time. “We were going to try to do our debut at Pensacola, but we talked it over and we’re going to try to get a couple races in pending sponsorship for a little later in the year, and possibly Nashville.”

Back in January, Hairston got the opportunity to test at Daytona for Fast Track which resulted in him getting approved by ARCA for all tracks on the schedule. He was 44th fastest out of all 76 drivers who took time for testing. “It went pretty good, that was really my first time on a superspeedway and it was a different experience for me, I’m used to racing on dirt and you’re on a big 2.5 mile track and you’re holding it to the floor wide open and you just have to grit your teeth.”

Speaking of the dirt racing that Hairston has competed it, Hairston has competed at multiple dirt tracks over the years as a driver such as at Magnolia Motor Speedway, Columbus Speedway, Thunder Valley Speedway (now West Alabama Speedway), Talladega Short track and others. Hairston runs the #23 when he competes on dirt as its a number he has had ever since middle school. “I played football, basketball, baseball and I’ve always just wanted the number. My dad wore #22 but I had an older brother that was using #22. He was a couple grades above me and we always played on the same teams, so he used the #22 and I took the next number up #23.”

Hairston also served as a crew chief at the ARCA East race at Nashville last year for Stephanie Moyer. Moyer was driving the #12 as a start and park to get seat time for Charlotte and finished in 13th completing only 20 laps. “It was my first time actually being a crew chief and in an official race, but it was pretty cool for the most part. The guys at the shop all had the car dialed in pretty good so it was pretty cool.” Hairston was also serving as the crew chief on a pretty old car too, RCR-156 which Dave Blaney first drove at Kansas in 2005!

Summarizing overall what Hairston is hoping to acheive in the sport, Hairston had this to say, “I’ve been in racing almost 17 years my goal is to add more diversity to the sport and show the younger generation no matter who you are or where your from with God dedication and hard work you can do anything you put your mind to and dreams do come true.” Hairston’s eventual goal after running a few races in 2024 is to go full time in the ARCA Menards Series in 2025 pending sponsorship of course. The ARCA Menards East Series will compete at the Nashville Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 11th, 2024 which is currently Hairston’s intended track to debut at and will be aired on FloRacing.
