Scott Dixon’s fuel strategy prevailed in Sunday’s Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach after holding off late-race runs from Colton Herta and Josef Newgarden.

Scott Dixon led 42 laps, more than any driver in Sunday’s race from P8 off the starting grid in his Chip Ganassi Racing Honda to score his second victory in the Grand Prix of Long Beach. Dixon’s 57th career NTT IndyCar Series win puts him ten wins away from reaching A.J. Foyt’s all-time win record of 67. This also comes at the New Zealander’s quest to reach Foyt’s record for the most NTT IndyCar Series championships (7). At age 43, Scott Dixon has won races for 22 straight IndyCar seasons, thus reminding his competition that he isn’t going away any time soon.

Hondas shined on their luxury brand’s (Acura) sponsored weekend, sweeping the podium. Colton Herta finished second in his Andretti Global Honda. He had to hold off a hard-charging Álex Palou and got the job done. Herta led seven laps after starting P4 in Sunday’s race and now moves up to third in championship points.

Rounding out the all-Honda podium is defending NTT IndyCar Series champion, Álex Palou. Palou started sixth in his DHL-sponsored Chip Ganassi Racing machine and complimented race-winning teammate Scott Dixon on the podium. Palou moves up to fourth in the championship standings.

2022 Long Beach winner, Josef Newgarden fell off the second place position with seven laps to go. Contact with Colton Herta in a battle for second set the Penske driver back a couple of spots and Newgarden crossed the line in P4, besting all the Chevrolet drivers. Newgarden leaves Long Beach with a 12 point lead over Scott Dixon.

Finishing behind Newgarden is Marcus Ericsson. Ericsson clocked the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:07.7690 on lap 71 en route to his fifth place finish.

Felix Rosenqvist showed his muscle in qualifying. With a lap time of 1:06.0172, Rosenqvist scored his sixth career NTT IndyCar Series Pole Position. The Swede led the field to the green flag and only led the opening lap, eventually coming home in ninth place.

Making his first apperance on the NTT IndyCar Series grid is 2023 FIA Formula 2 Champion, Théo Pourchaire. The 20-year-old French debutant turned many heads in the pits and in the stands alike, as he drove the #6 Arrow McLaren Chevrolet to an impressive eleventh place finish. Standing in for the injured David Malukas, Pourchaire praised the racing product of America’s premier single seater series when addressing the media after the checkered flag. With Malukas still not cleared to return to the track, Pourchaire may be likely to do another race with Arrow McLaren in the upcoming Alabama Grand Prix.

Fans attending the Long Beach Grand Prix were treated to a weekend of beautiful weather and exciting racing. In addition to IndyCar, the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship also raced on the streets of Long Beach, where Chip Ganassi Racing won in their Cadillac V-Series.R with drivers Renger van der Zande and four-time NTT IndyCar Series Champion Sébastien Bourdais.

After more than a month of waiting from St. Petersburg, the NTT IndyCar Series tour carries straight on to this weekend for round three of the 2024 season. The Childrens of Alabama Indy Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park will mark the first purpose-built road course event of the season.
