Carson Hocevar’s bad luck from his first two seasons in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series seems to have turned around for good.

Despite Ty Majeski’s dominant performance in winning the first two stages of the race, Hocevar passed him within the final five laps and stole a win from the ThorSport driver. It’s Hocevar’s third win of the season and it gives him massive momentum heading into the playoffs. Hocevar now has the most wins in the Truck Series this season. Meanwhile, Majeski could only muster second place, still impressive considering that he had a speeding penalty in the final stage and took a strategy gamble to get back to the front.

In sixth place, Corey Heim took home the regular season title. Despite missing a race due to illness, Heim’s regular season title was never really in doubt in the last five races. He leads the series in top ten finishes. Another notable finish was Matt Mills in fifth, taking home his first career top 5 in his first start for KBM. Could he find a full time home with Busch? Time will tell.

It was a bad night for the “win and in” drivers, as none of them were ever serious threats to spoil the playoff party. As a result, the playoff grid looks like it did before the race – Heim, Hocevar, Majeski, Ben Rhodes, Zane Smith, Christian Eckes, Grant Enfinger, Nick Sanchez, Matt DiBenedetto, and Matt Crafton are in.

The next Truck Series race isn’t until Friday, August 11th at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis. This race kicks off the round of 10 in the playoffs, so be sure to tune in and keep your eye out for our playoff preview!
