17 year old Paul Owens from Quakertown, Pennsylvania has joined ARCA Menards Series team Rette Jones Racing for the 2024 ARCA Menards Series season. While as of now he does not have any solidified races in 2024, he is hoping to compete in select events throughout the season in the #30 Ford for the team depending on sponsorship. In the best case scenario with sponsorship, he is hoping to run the full ARCA Menards Series East schedule in 2024. “Now we’re just gonna hopefully pull some stuff together and get the final pieces together and select races throughout the year, but if someone comes along and says hey I wanna sponsor the whole east tour, that would be great and we’ll run the full east tour, but right now we’re just gonna run races across the ARCA platform.”

Rette Jones Racing competed in the full ARCA Menards Series schedule in 2023 with actor Frankie Muniz behind the wheel. He finished 4th in points, 3rd in the rookie standings, and had his best finish of 5th at Michigan. The team came together back in 2015 in a merger between Canadian Terry Jones’ ARCA program and friend Mark Rette to form the team. They have run in ARCA with various other drivers such as Grant Quinlan, Amber Balcaen, Kris Wright, amongst others. They last ran a full ARCA East program when rookie from Mexico Max Gutierrez scored his first ARCA win at New Smyrna in a last lap pass. Gutierrez finished 4th in the 2021 ARCA East point standings. They also had a program in the Nascar Craftsman Truck Series as recent as 2019 when Spencer Davis drove the #82 and #11 for them. Right now, their full plans for 2024 are TBD and it is currently unknown if the #30 will attempt Daytona or if Frankie Muniz will return to the team. The team was mysteriously absent from last weekend’s annual ARCA test at Daytona.

Recently, Owens made his return to stock cars for the first time in awhile running the South Carolina 400 for Carroll Speedshop at Florence Motor Speedway. In 2019 he ran 2 races at Tri-County Motor Speedway and Anderson Motor Speedway in the RPM Pro-Formance Southeast Legends Tour. He has also previously competed at Hickory Motor Speedway such as in 2021 running a part-time schedule. He planned to run 10 late model events at Hickory in 2022, but had to take time off due to a personal matter and only ran 3. He was very excited to get behind the wheel again in 2023. Despite the entry being fielded by another team, Mark Rette was there helping out the effort and carried the #30, with sponsorship from Coding & Billing Solutions. Owens qualified way back in 39th but did complete all 250 laps and finished in 20th. Speaking of Rette, he will be serving as Owens’ crew chief if he makes starts in ARCA this year.

If Owens is able to attempt races this year for Rette Jones Racing, Bristol is very high on his bucket list as well as Dover and the Nashville Fairgrounds too. He’d enjoy doing a road course or two as well as he’s competed in them before in legend cars. In general though, any track that he is approved for currently in ARCA are ones he’d like to run which is any track 1 mile or shorter plus the road courses. ARCA had a rule that 17 year olds could race at Pocono and Owens was putting together plans to compete there in 2024 before the track was unfortunately dropped from the 2024 calendar. There is one intermediate he is eligible to run which is the Kansas Speedway date on September 27th as he turns 18 before that. He and Mark Rette are hoping to do a test next month at a short track but nothing is set in stone at the moment. I had also asked about what his eventual plan is for racing and he had this to say, “If I could be like a Matt Crafton or an Elliott Sadler and run in Xfinity and Trucks full time making a living driving cars full time you know, if that’s what it is that would be amazing.”

Overall, if all goes to plan, he’d like to compete wherever he can depending on sponsorship and if he runs the ARCA East tour like he originally planned on running, he will be competing in all 8 races in the #30 there which includes 3 standalone races and 5 companion races. He would face competition from drivers such as William Sawalich, Gio Ruggiero, Dale Shearer, D.L. Wilson, Rita Goulet and others. Owens and Rette Jones Racing are hoping to acquire sponsorship for this venture as part of Paul Owens’ first foray into the ARCA Menards Series, Nascar’s current 4th tier series. The 2024 ARCA Menards Series kicks off at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida on February 17th at 1:30 PM EST and the ARCA Menards Series East schedule kicks off on March 23rd at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida on FloRacing.
