A brand new team will be debuting in the ARCA Menards Series in 2024, Scofield Motorsports out of Plant City, Florida. Father and son, Jeff Scofield and Tyler Scofield will both be taking the wheel of the #07 Chevloret in a part time schedule in both the ARCA Menards Main Series and ARCA Menards Series East. The team will be testing at Daytona next weekend on Friday January 12th and Saturday January 13th as part of ARCA’s annual test session at Daytona. Father Jeff will be piloting the #07 at Daytona and son Tyler will be piloting the #07 at Five Flags. If all goes well in both events, Tyler might add another race to his schedule for the ARCA East race at Nashville Fairgrounds.

Scofield Motorsports is a family run team out of Florida and for the past few decades, the team has been competing in late models across Florida at tracks such as New Smyrna Speedway, Freedom Factory, Citrus County Speedway, Auburndale Speedway, and more. With costs ballooning in the late model scene, they felt they could try something new they haven’t done before (ARCA), as the costs are about equal now between late models and ARCA. They’re plan is to be competitive as they are in the Florida late model scene as Jeff has picked up wins in series’ such as the FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Model Series, Florida United Promoters Late Model Series, Sunshine State Challenge Series, Florida All Stars Tour, Bright House Challenge Series, Wheel Man Sportsman Series, They bought 3 cars this past off-season, 2 cars from Derrick Lancaster, and one from Scott Reeves although they did sell this car off to AJ Moyer. They also purchased ilmor engines which are in both cars. Brian Finney who is a former competitor in ARCA will serve as the crew chief at Daytona and potentially for Five Flags. Finney has been helping out the Scofields a lot with preparing their cars for 2024.

I sat down with Tyler for an interview on Monday to discuss some things related to their ARCA plans for 2024 and I had asked what got them into ARCA. “Probably the cost of Super Late Model Racing, it’s gotten so high that why not try something else.” Racing has also been a family tradition for the Scofields as Tyler is a 3rd generation driver within the family and the car number 07 has also been a long standing tradition within their family which is why they picked the #07 which was available for competition in ARCA. The 07 has not been used in ARCA since 2022 when Brian Kaltreider ran the first 3 races of the season. I had also talked to Tyler about the small team atmosphere within ARCA too and about they’re main goals too. “If we can be competitive and finish the race, that’s a win.”

Overall, the Scofields are amongst one of the new teams to ARCA in 2024 and are becoming a part of the large family that is the ARCA Menards Series garage area. They are hoping to be as competitive as possible in the races they do and are hoping to turn some heads. It can also be seen as a potential trend of teams moving to other series’ as the costs of late models continue to rise faster than costs in series’ like ARCA. Tyler had also mentioned that many in the Florida late model scene have gotten mad about the costs rising in the Late Model scene which could prompt more drivers and teams to make the switch to a cheaper series like ARCA. The ARCA Menards Series will kickoff the 2024 season at Daytona on Saturday, February 17th at 1:30 PM EST, and the ARCA Menards Series East will open their season at Five Flags on March 23rd with the ASA STARS National Tour joining them in conjuction for the first time.
