A notable fan favorite in ARCA, the 1/4 man, Dale Quarterley will once again be making his return to the ARCA Menards Series in 2024. The 63 year old veteran out of Westfield, Massachusetts will be running a similar schedule to the one he ran in 2023. He will be starting his season at Daytona in the #4 again where he has run strong the past 2 years. Then he’ll be running both ARCA West road courses at Portland and Sonoma with the #32. It should be noted that the number swap between both series’ is a result of Nascimento Motorsports owning the #4 in the ARCA West series, and AM Racing owning the #32 in the main ARCA series. After both west road courses, he’ll make the trip back out east to compete at Mid-Ohio in the #4 again. His plan is then to enter both dirt races at Illinois and DuQuoin with the same car that was wrecked out at Illinois last year. He is hoping to be able to make the trip out to DuQuoin this year after having to withdraw due to the ex Bill Hendren car being too damaged to race. With Watkins Glen being moved back in the calendar to race 17, Quarterley will conclude his schedule at his home track in the ARCA Menards Series where he finished 5th last year.

In addition, Quarterley is also planning to enter the Nascar Craftsman Truck Series race at Circuit of The Americas with his own truck, an ex Turner Scott later KBM truck. Due to the costs of fielding a team for one race, he is planning to once again partner with an existing team and has been in talks with one about a potential deal to field his truck. He does believe he’ll have a little more wiggle room with the team he is looking to partner with. Quarterley partnered with Glory 2 God Racing last year at both COTA and Mid-Ohio and ran their #46 owner points. He finished in 28th on the lead lap at COTA and 35th at Mid-Ohio after overheating issues forced him to drop out of the race after 35 laps.

It should be noted that Quarterley would prefer to use the #32, as it has been a number he’s been using as early as 1994 when he made his debut in the then Nascar K&N Pro Series East at Lime Rock. He’s also used it for motorcycle racing where he has had a successful career as a rider and team owner. As a driver, Quarterley has picked up 6 wins in the now named ARCA Menards Series East. He picked up his first win in 2001 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and his last win at Dover Motor Speedway in 2004. 2004 was also his best championship result in the series with a 3rd. Using his road racing experience, Quarterley also scored a win in the Nascar Whelen Modified Series in 2010 at Lime Rock driving the #52 for car owner Wayne Darling. Quarterley also has starts in the Nascar Xfinity Series with his last coming in 2008 and also attempted one cup series race back in 2006 at Watkins Glen, where he unfortunately DNQ’ed.

There’s also a lot of great stories to be told while we’re at it too. I had to ask about the situation with his car from Daytona last year as that was something that caught a lot of eyes. For context, Quarterley had bought a car from GMS which Daniel Dye had driven at Daytona and Talladega in 2022 and decided to be very clever with it. “It drove my son crazy, because I’m cheap, I didn’t want to waste the money on the decals so I happened to look at his name (Daniel Dye) and I’m like. It’s got all the letters I need and I just started peeling letters, the only thing left out of Daniel Dye was DA L E. All spread out in different orders. My son hated it, he started picking on it and I walked over and switched his hand away and I told him. “Leave it alone it’ll get more press than anything else we do.” which it did.” Quarterley is running the same car again this year at Daytona. As of now, this will be the last time Dale will running Daytona as he feels he cannot handle the track past this year.

I had also asked about why he’s been running his team name as 1/4 ley Racing all this time. “I used to do it in school and the teachers hated it, they’d give me 0 on tests I didn’t care I just kept doing it.” Love the dedication Dale.

I had also asked about the noticeable improvements the team has had in recent years. “We went from 2 and 1/2 seconds off the pace to a 1/2 a second off the pace on the ARCA side. We get better every single week. I had fallen behind because I went motorcycle racing again but we’re catching up again.” He also had this to say about the small team aspect. “I’m a one man band, we’ve got a small team that we do a great job with, but to think about competing with those guys (Gibbs and Venturini) is near impossible, nevermind beating them.”

A few other notes are that Quarterley currently does not have a crew chief set for 2024, his son Alex was on top of the pit box last year. Van-Dyk Recycling Solutions will be returning once again as his primary sponsor. His main goal for 2024 is to win a race again especially with the success he’s had in the past 2 years. I do wish Dale the best of luck for the 2024 racing season. The 2024 ARCA Menards Series kicks off at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida on February 17th at 1:30 PM EST. The Nascar Craftsman Truck Series will be competing at Circuit of The Americas on March 23rd at 1:30 PM EST.
